October 2025 marked a landmark moment. The MedTech – Kenyatta University team, led by Principal Investigator Dr. Fidelis Kilonzo and Co-Principal Investigator Dr. June Madete, proudly celebrated the graduation of the East Africa Biodesign (EAB) Fellowship’s first cohort of Kenya-based fellows: a milestone a year in the making, and a bold signal of what is possible.

Eight fellows, based in Kenya and Rwanda, crossed the finish line of an intensive 10-month programme built on the globally respected Stanford Biodesign process, which trains innovators to identify, invent, and implement solutions to real clinical challenges.

The graduation was a memorable ceremony. Representing Kenyatta University’s leadership was Prof. Bernard Kivunge, Registrar Academic, whose presence underscored the institution’s commitment to embedding innovation at the heart of its academic mission.

Among the graduating cohort, four Kenya-based fellows were recognised for completing the programme: Susan Giatu, Longinus Okumu, Edwin Lubanga, and Lisa Nzau.

For Dr. Kilonzo, Dr. Madete, and the broader MedTech – Kenyatta University team, this graduation represents far more than a project milestone. It is proof of concept.

As the Class of 2025 steps forward into their externships, their work sets a powerful precedent for the fellows who will follow. Congratulations to all eight graduates of the EAB Fellowship Class of 2025.
