The MedTech Accelerator is a Project in Kenyatta University dedicated to building East Africa’s capacity to design, develop, and deliver its own medical technologies. Working with partners including Stanford Biodesign, the University of Global Health Equity, and the University of Rwanda, we train innovators, incubate ideas, and provide the facilities to turn them into working devices.

What is our mission?
By launching a new Biodesign-training program in 2024 while learning from the existing Stanford Biodesign, MedtechEAK and Kenyatta university, in partnership with other local academic partner institutions, will enable the collaboration between academia, local and international partners to develop an ecosystem that cultivates, fosters, and supports innovative thinking and implementation within local communities, in order to promote global health equity.

CORE VALUES
The proposed 2 and a half-year program design consists of four key components:
1) Training-the-trainer;
2) Local Innovation training program development in East Africa;
3) Idea incubator and accelerator, with the goal to create a successful innovation training program and a health tech innovation ecosystem in East Africa.
These strategic components aim to fill specific gaps in participants’ knowledge, strengthen systematic innovative design, support sustainable development and implementation of innovations.
