East Africa Biodesign Fellowship 2025 Officially Launches with International Orientation

January 13, 2025. The East Africa Biodesign Fellowship welcomed its 2025 cohort, the first to include Kenya-based fellows at Kenyatta University, as it commenced a transformative 10-month journey and marked a significant milestone in regional healthcare innovation. The fellowship, a cutting-edge collaboration between Kenyatta University, the Stanford Mussallem Center for Biodesign, and the University of Global Health Equity, began with an intensive orientation week at UGHE in Rwanda.

This prestigious programme brings together eight multidisciplinary fellows across two strategic locations: four based at Kenyatta University in Nairobi and four at UGHE in Kigali. The fellows engage in rigorous project-based learning, combining classroom instruction with hands-on practice and mentorship from ecosystem experts to address unmet healthcare needs across East Africa.

The orientation week established the foundation for a comprehensive curriculum designed to identify clinical needs, conduct validation research, and develop innovative solutions that advance equitable healthcare delivery throughout the region.
